Adnams Wine Sébastien learnt his winemaking craft whilst working as a cellar manager in Quincy. He returned to the family's 50 acre estate in Valençay, in the Loire's Central Vineyards area. The wine of Valençay acquired its AC status in 2002, and is the only area to hold this both for its wines and its distinctive, pyramid-shaped goat cheese, which accompany one other perfectly! Made from 80% Sauvignon and 20% Chardonnay, Sébastien believes this combination adds a completely different dimension, giving his wine a broad middle palate, and sets it apart from the pure Sauvignons of Sancerre and Pouilly. The vineyards sit in the rain shadow of a nearby forest, practically guaranteeing dry, healthy conditions for the grapes to prosper and ripen. The tell-tale green, cut grass flavours are supported by the richer, stone fruit characteristics of the un-oaked Chardonnay. Thanks to lees stirring during the winter months, this has an unexpected degree of richness and charm. Very grown-up! £10.50
