1999 Quinta Do Crasto Lbv Port (half) Fortified Wine Deliciously intense, powerful, pepper-edged Port that lives up to the award-winning reputation of this pioneering outfit. We were the first to beat a path to Miguel Roquette's ex-Roman fort ('castrum'), high above the Douro. In 1994 he sagely drafted in Australia's David Baverstock (top consultant and winemaker to Sir Cliff) who forged a cast-iron plan for realising the potential of Crasto's centuries-old vineyards. |

Aurora Manzanilla Pedro Romero Fortified Wine This classic bone-dry sherry hails from the 140-year-old Sanl·car de Barrameda wine cellars of Pedro Romero, husband of the eponymous 'Aurora' - Dona Aurora Ambrosse y Lacave - who valiantly took up the reins of the business on behalf of her sons in 1911. It's subtle, dry and fragrant with the tang of sea air, hints of the finest salted almonds and lovely depth of flavour. Best enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or with shellfish, squid or gazpacho. |

Sercial 5 Year Old Cossart Gordon (50cl) Fortified Wine When William Cossart arrived in Madeira in 1808 after a 6 year journey from Dublin (his boat was hijacked by the French), William Gordon, founder of the island's oldest shipper, had the prefix he'd been waiting for. Fugitive from Scotland's '45 Rebellion', Gordon was pleased that his wines were used to toast America's Declaration of Independence. This is the lightest style of Madeira, a fine balance of buttery, nutty richness and zesty lemon peel flavour. Chill; enjoy with olives or nuts. |
