Wine Aromas of vanilla oak, fresh limes and greengages, terrific with white wine-braised pork sausages, from this classic Graves estate. Christian Auney's pride in his estate's terroir is such that he's liable to scoop up a handful of rugged gravel and declare "Voila, le vrai Graves". 80-year-old vines and rigorously low yields result in concentrated flavours and consistent quality. Christian uses Sémillon for richness and a little Muscadelle to liven the final wine.
Wine Sébastien learnt his winemaking craft whilst working as a cellar manager in Quincy. He returned to the family's 50 acre estate in Valençay, in the Loire's Central Vineyards area. The wine of Valençay acquired its AC status in 2002, and is the only area to hold this both for its wines and its distinctive, pyramid-shaped goat cheese, which accompany one other perfectly! Made from 80% Sauvignon and 20% Chardonnay, Sébastien believes this combination adds a completely different dimension, giving his wine a broad middle palate, and sets it apart from the pure Sauvignons of Sancerre and Pouilly. The vineyards sit in the rain shadow of a nearby forest, practically guaranteeing dry, healthy conditions for the grapes to prosper and ripen. The tell-tale green, cut grass flavours are supported by the richer, stone fruit characteristics of the un-oaked Chardonnay. Thanks to lees stirring during the winter months, this has an unexpected degree of richness and charm. Very grown-up!
Wine Aglianico thrives in the mountainous region of Basilicata and in particular on the slopes of the extinct volcano, Vulture. The vineyards of Vulture are higher in altitude than most in Italy and so the slow-maturing Aglianico can ripen at its own pace. The area is beautifully sparse, just mountainous plains, fields of crops and a smattering of vineyards. The Pipoli is a wonderful example of Aglianico; dark, robust fruit with body and structure. What is really lovely though is the hint of softness. There is a rich, silky almost guilty pleasure in the finish. This wine is destined for hearty, simple food. The perfect match for me is lamb stew with potato and onion torte. A simple, soul-warming combination.
Wine The nose on this wine is awesome! You are hit by waves of concentrated blackcurrent fruit and crushed mint leaves. It's so good that you wonder if that palate can ever live up to the first impression. Well it certainly does! Anke 1 has pure, juicy red fruit, with velvety textures and warming spicy oak. The blend of two traditional French varieties have revolutionised themselves into a super-charged Chilian juice bomb. Packed with fruit, beautifully structured and a real treat for those looking to explore beyond the normal blends from Chile.
Wine In the mid-1990s, Philippe du Roy of Châteauneuf's famed Domaine de Villeneuve joined forces with consultant Philippe Cambie, seeking to produce 'authentic' (rather than flashy, souped-up and overblown) southern Rhône wines that owed their character to natural processes involving earth, vines, fruit, harvesting and winemaking. Gently-handled from vine to bottle, this spicy red, with classic peppery, meaty notes from the Cairanne region is as complex as Châteauneuf.

Minimal intervention is the mantra here. This wine is unfiltered and all the better for it. A wild and feral whirl of rustic red fruit flavours.
Wine The Perrin brothers of great Châteauneuf domaine Beaucastel are behind this elegant southern Rhône blend, a wine of warmth and delicious fruit purity. Grenache lends rich raspberry flavour, Syrah spicy depth. Great with roasts and grills. Marc and Pierre Perrin's progressive commitment to organic cultivation echoes the spirit of Edwardian scientist forebear Pierre Perrin, who introduced flash pasteurisation (super-heating grapes pre-ferment) to increase flavour.

Wine A small parcel from a chateau that is closing down as the owner has died. This 2002 has a concentration of mature fruit that is at its peak now and over the next 12 months. Exceptional value for money.

Wine Bob Berton, with his greying hair tied back in a pig-tail and genial smile, looks every inch as if he belongs in an Australian vineyard. He started with vineyards in the High Eden and then expanded with the purchase of a modern winery in Yenda in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Here he combines modern technology with old fashioned techniques to produce the Berton Farms range for Adnams.
Wine Voluptuous and mouthfilling, with juicy red fruit flavours and an appetisingly dry finish, this charming Beaujolais encapsulates the finer qualities of wines from the 'cru' village of Saint-Amour (one of ten quality enclaves to the north of the region). The locals would pair it with regional speciality the 'andouillette', which, to the uninitiated, might appear alarming; springy fermented offal squeezed into innocuous sausage skins.Regular gourmet sausages will do just as well.

Wine This wine shows the lightness of touch that has allowed it to display both purity and a sense of place. It is medium bodied with beautifully poised red fruit and very well integrated oak flavours. The crisp acidity and fine grained tannins provide a delightfully clean long finish of considerable finesse. This is a benchmark example of Marlborough Pinot Noir.
Wine An excellent value Cru Bourgeois wine, offering plenty of classic Médoc flavours of cassis, black cherry and plum fruits, balanced by hints of vanilla and spice. Fine tannins give backbone to the wine.
Wine This is one of a handful of estates in Chablis who only produce wine from their own estate and never sell to negoçiants - an impeccable guarantee of consistency and quality. The grapes come from old vines grown on a soil mix which gives the wine the typical steely and flinty edge which Chablis is so famous for.
Wine The 300 year old Port House of Taylor's, based in Oporto on the Atlantic coast, one of the greatest names of Port. Produced from one vintage, from the same constituent wines as the Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage is aged for 4 - 6 years in cask and released ready to drink. Dark fruits and beetroot notes with spicy undertones and hints of violets on the nose, with powerful tannins, firm acidity and rich, concentrated red and black fruits. A long finish of spice and fruit. Drinking well now but will be fine with another couple of years' ageing. Partner with cheese or as an after dinner treat.
Wine Robert Mondavi created the first Fumé Blanc in 1966 - a crisp, barrel-aged wine that captured the vibrant character of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Over the years, the viticulture and wine making techniques have continued to be finely tuned creating the best yet. Displaying bright citrus, pineapple, lemon grass, floral and mineral notes.
Wine Christophe Cordier is one of the hottest winemakers in Burgundy, renowned for making top class wines from fruit grown in only the best terroirs. A fabulous array of citrus fruits flow through the palate coupled with a mineral complexity creating a wine with sheer elegance and length.
Wine Delicate and elegant with a distinctive aroma of apple and apricot. Medium bodied, soft, velvety and well-balanced. An excellent aperitif.
Wine A one-off parcel from the respected Domaine Jomain, this white Burgundy comes exclusively from vines bordering the appellation of Puligny-Montrachet imparting a real elegance and minerality to the wine. A bright and fruity nose. Toasty oak, a fresh citrus tang, and hints of vanilla and flora. The slightly buttery texture on the palate goes on to a long, complex finish. Very approachable in its youth, but will reward a year or two of bottle age. A good partner to scallops.
Wine A firm traditionalist, Albert Grebet attributes his quality wine to the generous soil, adapted 15 year old vines, advanced vinification techniques and long maturation in oak barrels. Aromas of gunflint and freshly cut grass mingle with a fruity undercurrent of gooseberries culminating in a crisp balanced finish.
Wine An estate whose wines usually go into a generic Côte de Chalonnaise blend. Our buyers, however, were so impressed that we convinced the Co-op to reserve the wine and bottle it separately just for Majestic. The result is classic Chardonnay with an elegant balance of acidity and fresh lemon fruit.
Wine Produced by the family-run company Maison Louis Latour, who are producing white and red wines from the finest of Burgundy to wines from outside the region of Burgundy. A clean, fresh wine displaying honey and stone fruit aromas. Sweet honey and floral characters are in abundance on the palate and create a fine and elegant complexity. A great wine and a great example of a Mâconnais wine. Perfect with seafood and chicken dishes.
Wine This rich golden wine is made from hand selected botrytised grapes. Only made in certain vintages when the conditions are just right this is one of Germany's most prized vinous treasures. With a juicy mouthful of ripe honeyed fruits and a finish that is long and satisfying, but never heavy, it is pure luxury. Enjoy with another luxury....foie gras.
Wine This Barolo is produced at a winery in the tiny village of Priocca in the heart of Piedmont, by French winemaker Gaetane Carron. Hand-harvested and fermented in wood and steel vats, the wine spends 24 months in new and old French oak, plus a year in bottle before release. Full bodied and rich, with the Barolo hallmarks of plum and raisin-like fruit, scented with subtle notes of roses and violets. The tannins are bold yet velvety and elegant. To enjoy at its best, decant two-to-three hours before serving, with a hearty stew, game or mature cheeses.
Wine A parcel of 2007 wine obtained at an irresistibly low price by our buyer. A small château, which employs great vineyard management and grape selection, has produced a well-structured wine, winning a gold medal in the Bordeaux's Concours Generale 2009. A classy and elegant bouquet, with a harmonious balance of black fruits and cedar-like notes. On the palate, the tannins are fine, allowing the core of fruit to shine. Drink now or within the next year or two, with a nice rustic cheese board.
