Wine A 'Decanter' 'Best Rosé' - clean, fresh flavours of raspberries and strawberries finishing on a twist of cranberry. Briton Philip Mallard, and French wife Marianne have seen the reputation of their stylish wines flourish. They're also the proud owners of a herd of Limousin cattle and a champion bull. Recognised by the Archbishop of Bordeaux in the 14th century, Château Pique-Sègue was among the best known crus of Montravel and Bergerac by the end of the 19th.
Wine Bodegas Pirineos, named after the Pyrenéean backdrop to this massive Catalan winery, is one of only 3 outfits making nearly all the wines in Somontano (between Rioja and Barcelona). Having nurtured hundreds of growers since the '60s, Pirineos now offer a fascinating array of wines. This rich white, from grapes ripened to sweetness on the vine, brings together the spice of Gewürztraminer with the ripe fruit of Chardonnay and the opulence of Macabeo. At its best with spicy seafood.
Wine Located at the bottom of the Mont Brouilly, the Charrion family has owned this property for more than a century. This husband-and-wife winemaking team combine respect for their terroir with organic fertilisers and modern winemaking technology. An exceptional Beaujolais of great weight and intensity, retaining the classic fresh raspberry and cherry fruit flavours synonymous with the region. Enjoy immediately with cold pork or sausages. It would be no problem to serve this wine slightly chilled.

Wine Yali is the name of the valley where the Ventisquero winery is located. The El Yali is a tidal salt marsh in the central zone of Chile. This ecosystem is especially important with regards to native birds, as it is home to 25% of the bird biodiversity in Chile. An intense ruby colour with aromas of cassis, strawberries and plums. A rich, full-bodied wine with notes of cherry, tobacco and a hint of coffee. Smooth tannins are balanced with a pleasing finish. An ideal accompaniment to grilled steaks or full-flavoured casseroles.
Wine A dynamic Merlot, produced in the spirit of the 'Viñedos Orgánicos Emiliana', an innovative project to develop organic viticulture in Chile. Deep cherry-red in colour, it shows intense strawberry and raspberry aromas, subtly lifted by notes of chocolate and cream. Silky tannins on the well-rounded palate complete the finish of this deliciously smooth wine.

Wine Heralding from the Puglia region, the Primitivo grape has recently shown to be identical to California's Zinfandel. What this wine doesn't share in common with it's North American cousin are very high tannin and alcohol levels. Displaying complex aromas of dark, plummy fruit and eucalyptus, the palate is juicy and rounded without being tannic or bitter. This rustic wine is not too full-bodied to enjoy without food, but is at it's best when matched with tomato and herb dishes.
Wine A classic Italian blend of two of its signature red grapes, this wine hails from one of Italy's oldest wine producing areas in the Orvieto province, where grapes have been grown since the time of the Etruscans, before the ancient Roman era. A friendly and fruit-driven red, with a lightly herbaceous character that perfectly complements the cherry-like backbone of fruit. Light-medium bodied with a supple mouthfeel. Naturally at home with tomato and herb pasta dishes; try with a Primavera sauce.
Wine The Viognier grapes for this wine come from the Periliho Estate in the Colchagua Valley. Yali's approach to vinification involves a cold soak, before fermentation controlled between 13-16 degrees. The wine is also then aged for two months with weekly lees stirring. Light in body and texture, with an emphasis on stone fruits and tropical characters. Melon, apricot and tangerine notes abound, lifted by a sharp citrussy acidity. Refreshing on its own, or drink with honey and ginger glazed pork and roasted vegetables.
Wine Naiano is located in the hills close to the small town of Bardolino, on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. The vineyards here have a south-southwesterly aspect, giving the grapes excellent sun exposure, and the 200m altitude and cool temperatures ensure lengthy ripening. Straightforward and unmistakably Italian, this Bardolino is bright ruby red, with a freshness of fruit and a slender frame. Lingering flavours of cherry and bitter almond add a dash of complexity. Any simple Mediterranean cuisine will partner well with this wine, especially a lively Primavera style pasta, or dressed olives.
Wine Maison Louis Chavy was founded in 1938 by Louis Chavy, a famous grower in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate now makes a range of wines from across the Burgundy region. This wine is made from grapes sourced primarily from the central and southern parts of Beaujolais. An outstanding quality Beaujolais, fragrant and enticing on the nose, with lightly confected floral notes. Full of juicy fruit on the palate, with plump raspberry flavours and soft acidity. Dry and crisp on the palate, with harmonious flavours of ripe summer fruits and soft acidity. Enjoy on its own as a refreshing summertime drink, or pair with a crayfish salad.
Wine Jean Pabiot and son Alain are the proud guardians of a winemaking tradition stretching back 6 generations. Their sizeable domaine comprises an enviable portfolio of chalky Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Wines from the latter perfectly express the appellation's classic smoky, minerally character. The grassy nuances and soft asparagus notes of this latest vintage make this great with goat cheeses, oysters and baked cod.

Wine From the Nîmes region at the foot of the Rhône appellation, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault are grown on the unique rolling pebbles, or 'gress' of Château Guiot. The colour is obtained by keeping the skins in contact with the juice before fermentation. Perfume, red berries, spies, summer berries and blossom aromas with an off-dry, medium weight of fruit, clean and mineral acidity and a vibrant sweet redcurrant finish. A wine that will bring sunshine to the cloudiest day, best enjoyed young. An apéritif or partner to tortellini with rabbit ragout.
Wine Costières de Nîmes has more in common with the Rhône across the river than it does with the wines of Languedoc immediately neighbouring it. Château Guiot lies just outside the city of Nîmes, in the heart of this appellation. Deep purple hue, a beautifully scented nose with herby aromas, lashings of juicy forest fruits and spicy, rich berry flavours on the palate and a good, smooth finish. Equally good with anything from shepherds pie, meatballs or moussaka style vegetarian dishes.
Wine Made by winemaker Bertrand Seube, formerly of Château Mouton-Rothschild, using a blend of Bordeaux and Southern French varieties. Cabardès in Southern France is the only formal appellation which permits blending of this broad range of classic varieties in the same wine. Rustic aromas of raspberries, mullberries and cooking spices permeate from an intensely ruby coloured wine. A firm, tannic palate of spice and dark fruits leads to a layered, dry finish. Ideal with casseroles and red meat dishes, vegetable soups and cassoulet, or tagine. Drink over the next two years.
Wine The vineyards of Domaine Sainte Rose cover a total of 48 hectares, with planted vineyards amounting to 33 hectares. They spread from the clay/limestone soils found along the banks of the River Thongue up onto the gravelly schist soils of the plateau. Flavours of the Garrigue such as aromatic thyme with jammy, red fruit and spicy, black pepper, make this a wine of enormous character. It is warm and complex on the nose, rich and ripe on the palate. Superb structure and length allows cellaring for another couple of years but enjoy now with pepper steak.
Wine This unique blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne depends on the north wind to ensure gentle aeration of the berries and thus humidity-free maturation. The berries were carefully picked at night so as not to be exposed to the heat of the day. A pale yellow colour leads to an intense and elegant nose. Notes of honeysuckle, peach, melon and caramel are backed-up on the palate and contribute to a well-balanced persuasive finish. Open over the next year or two with seafood and chicken dishes or as an interesting partner to Asian fusion cuisine.
Wine Coming from the Las Moras Estate in San Juan, the conditions are ideal for growing vines and producing grapes full of flavour. Both tangy and refreshing, this wine is packed full of ripe apricots, melons and soft peach fruits with just a hint of honey.
Wine Technically, this wine is a 'Malbec/Malbec' blend - with 50% of the fruit coming from vineyards at 700m above sea level (this fruit gives the ripe plum and prune characteristics) and 50% coming from 1,100m (where the grapes mature more slowly giving intense colour and aromatics).
Wine A stylish wine from one of Burgundy's most reliable and well-reputed producers. Crisp and elegant with citrus and apple fruit characters alongside a lovely streak of minerality. Refined and classy, this is a superb introduction to this famous region's wines.
Wine Château de Pennautier has been in the Lorgeril family since 1620. Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril are the tenth generation of vignerons at this historic domaine. A typically aromatic Viognier nose reveals honeysuckle, fresh apricots and even a hint of sherbert. Crisp and fresh, the Marquis de Pennautier is an excellent aperitif, however also goes well with all manner of salads, quiches, and grilled fish.
Wine This is a subtle and stylish wine with intense plum, mulberry and black fruit flavours. Maturation in French oak has added a soft complexity and well integrated tannins.
Wine Pinot Noir continues to grow in popularity and the style of this wine pleasantly falls between classic French Pinot and the riper styles we see from the New World. The use of modern winemaking equipment but traditional methods creates a unique wine. Showing violets and sweet red berries on the nose the palate is rich, velvety and full, with well-integrated oak. Perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity make this a good choice for long summer suppers, or this is light enough to enjoy by itself.
